Helen N. Buck age 93 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Pine Haven Care Center, where she had resided for three years. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Helen Natalie Swiderski was born on February 13, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to August and Natalie (nee Doberstein) Swiderski. She grew up in the Hinckley area and moved to South St. Paul in 1933. In 1935 she graduated from South St. Paul High School. After graduation she attended South St. Paul Normal Training for two years. Helen taught country school in the Mazeppa-Zumbrota area. On December 16, 1939 she married Vernon C. Buck in South St. Paul. They farmed in rural Mazeppa before moving to the Zumbrota area. Helen taught Sunday school at Christ Lutheran for many years and had been a member of its ladies aid. She enjoyed playing the piano, tending to her flower gardens, playing cards and entertaining.
Helen is survived by her four children, Donnell (Betty) Buck of Zumbrota, Elaine (Fred) Stenman of St. Cloud, Loraine (Charles) Malmgren of San Diego, CA, and Vernell (Jane) Buck of Zumbrota; eleven grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and a sister Wanda Boyle of San Diego, CA.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, her parents and one sister, Elsie Stebner.
Casketbearers are Jeffrey Buck, Brian and Daniel Hokanson, Charles Semrow, Jason and Joel Stenman.
