Together they worked very hard on the farm side by side milking cows, pigs, chickens, field work, mowing lawn and maintaining a beautiful yard and home. They took pride in their homestead and it showed. If time allowed they were able to travel and take memorable vacations with family and friends.
Helen was a housewife and took pride in providing wonderful meals, baking bread, rolling lefse, cookies, cakes and bars. The freezer was always full and ready to entertain visitors and they loved company.
Helen's hobbies included music, accordion, organ, singing, gardening (Helen loved her two raspberry patches), flowers, canning, cooking, cake decorating, embroidery and making quilts. Helen was a member of The Home Extension Project Group for many years and was an active member of Holden Lutheran Church, where she participated in WELCA, Circle, prayer chain and quilting group.
Helen is survived by her husband of 71 years, Garvin; two daughters, Susan (Gary) Windhorst of Wanamingo and Kathy (Rodney) Nardinger of Lake City; four grandchildren, Jodie (Chad) Blakstad, Jamie (Brad) Quam and Staci Nardinger, all of Zumbrota and Ryan (Fiancée Holly Haire) Nardinger of Lake City; seven great-grandchildren, Dana Blakstad of Austin, Danielle and Brandi Blakstad, Tyler, Alyssa, Lyndsey and Natalye Quam all of Zumbrota; two great-great-grandchildren, Serenity and Noah Blakstad both of Austin and brother, Worrell Swanson of rural Goodhue.
