Hazel Freiheit, 100, Fargo, ND, died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Bethany on 42nd. Hazel Luella Budensiek was born May 16, 1910, at Minneola Township in Goodhue County, MN to August and Emma (Freiheit) Budensiek. She attended a rural township school in Zumbrota, MN school system and then attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural College for one year. On November 20, 1935, Hazel married Orville A. Freiheit at Bear Valley, MN. They lived in Zumbro Falls, MN and Goodhue, MN, prior to moving to Red Wing, MN, in 1942. While living in the Red Wing area, Hazel worked in housekeeping and as a nursing assistant for Red Wing Health Center for ten years. She was an active member of First Covenant Church in Red Wing, MN, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and participated in church womenâ?TMs activities. Hazel and her husband were long time residents of Red Wing, MN.
She is survived by son, Roger (Sharon), West Fargo, ND; daughter, Karen Freiheit, Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Jennifer Freiheit, Milwaukee, WI, Kimberly (Chad) Morarend, Dubuque, IA; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Luke, John and Peter Morarend.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville; brother, Roy and sisters, Esther Lohmann and Alta Hinrichs.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the First Covenant Church, Red Wing, Minnesota with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is in charge of the memorial service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, MN.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Luke, John and Peter Morarend.
