Hazel Constantia Christenson, 96, of Red Wing died Friday February 1, 2008 at the Fairview Seminary Home. She was born March 17, 1911 in Burnside Township to Christian and Albertina (Mattson) Christenson. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1928 and completed her teachers training in 1929. She then went to Michigan State University where she received her BA and MA. She taught in rural schools around Goodhue County, Bremerhaven, Germany and later becoming the principal at Grand River Elementary School in Lansing, Michigan for 10 years. She retired in 1973 then moved back to Red Wing in 1987. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was a member of LCW; she was also a member of the Goodhue County Historical Society and Friends of the Sheldon. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading and writing.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence, Clifford, Edward, Ernest, George, and Sidney Christenson; sisters, Alice, Elfie, Mabel, and Mabel V. Christenson.
Funeral will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul, Tom, and Don Christenson, Janet Withers, Nancy Mapson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church
