Harvey Dean Duffing, 62, of Red Wing, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born July 27, 1950, in Red Wing, to Charles and Carmen (Bischoff) Duffing. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1968. Following school, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and later served in the Minnesota National Guard, with a total of 37 years of service. On October 14, 1972, he married Jeanne Otto at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. He worked for Rivera Cabinets and Culligan before starting with the City of Red Wing, where he was employed for 35 years, retiring in August of 2008. Harvey was a member of the Church of St. Joseph; Knights of Columbus; Burnson-Lillyblad VFW #1218, where he was a past commander and also a member of the VFW Clown Club; Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54; Minnesota Good Samaritan RV Club where he had served as state director and the Redmen Club. He enjoyed camping, traveling ,volunteering and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jeanne ; 3 children, Christy (Mark) Aufderhar of Ellsworth, Amanda (David) Pete of Red Wing and Nicholas (Beth) Duffing of Red Wing; 5 grandchildren, Lidia, Kya, Kendra, Joshua, Kayleigh and 2 granddaughters due in September; 2 brothers, Charles "Duff" (Alida) Duffing, of Red Wing, Ernest (Gloria) Duffing of Hastings; 2 sisters, Faye Lindblom of Vasa and Susan Kirchner of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at a later date at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson - Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
