Harry Samuel Johnson

Harry Samuel Johnson, 88, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at his home. He was born on July 7, 1927 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Herbert and Peninah (Gillam) Johnson. His family moved to Minnesota where he grew up in Bloomington, graduating from Bloomington High School in 1945. He attended Hamline University. He served in the Merchant Marines and US Army during World War II and also in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He established Harry S. Johnson and Associates in 1956, a private land surveying company. He continued as a land surveyor until retiring. He married Jean Wadsworth on 1950 and they had six children and later divorced. He married Susan Braasch and they had one son, Matthew and they later divorced. He married Betty Nordby and she preceded him in death. On July 29, 1997 he married Beverly Henderson. They lived in Utah for a number of years before moving to Red Wing in 2010. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also several Land Surveying Associations. He enjoyed motorcycling, horses, electronic gadgets and flying.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; seven children, David A. (Susan) Johnson, Mary Johnson, Julie (Robert) Muschamp, Jana Johnson, Paul Johnson, Danielle (Mark Parson) Johnson and Matthew (Emily) Johnson; seven step-children; Cari (Bret) Jepson, Cathy (Darrell) Redford, James (Julie) Henderson, Michael (Laura) Henderson, Cristin (Peter) Knight, Joshua (Tasha) Henderson and Caryn Henderson; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 28 step grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty and 9 brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be 12 noon on Monday, October 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with James D. Lash, President, Oakdale Minnesota Stake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints presiding. Burial will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 on Monday at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel.
