Harris J. Rude, age 80 of Zumbrota died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on February 24, 2010 at his home.
The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday March 1, 2010 at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Susan Vikstrom officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota with full military honors. The visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday February 28, 2010 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and an hour prior to the service at the church.
Harris Joseph Rude was born on March 5, 1929 to Oscar and Elvina (nee Goplen) Rude. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1946. In 1948 he started working for Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Zumbrota. On January 16, 1951 he was called to active duty in the United States Army. On August 25, 1951 he married Alta Mae Berg at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. After his honorable discharge on April 30, 1952, Harris and Alta Mae returned to Zumbrota and he continued his career with D.H.I.A. In 1991 he retired from D.H.I.A.
Harris was a member of the United Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Zumbrota American Legion Post #183, Zumbrota Lions Club, 65-50 club and was on the original members of the Zumbrota Ambulance. He also was a volunteer driver for several organizations including the Veterans Administration, Meals on Wheels, and Faith in Action. Harris enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, including being to all fifty states and sporting events, especially local sporting events. The couple wintered in Arizona for several years.
Harris is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Alta Mae; three children, Douglas (Jackie) Rude of Rochester, John (Connie) Rude of Zumbrota, and Patty (Corey) Nelson of Cannon Falls; nine grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Rude, Aaron (Jessica) Rude, Lisanne (Kris) Shumway, Kara (Justin) McNamara, Jason (Rochelle) Aune, Justin (Megan) Aune, Adam Aune, Amanda Nelson, and Matt Nelson and 6.3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donnie and Orville; and son-in-law, Doug Aune.
Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
Casketbearers are Jason Rude, Aaron Rude, Lisanne Shumway and Kara McNamara.
Honorary bearers are Traci Rude, Jessica Rude, Kris Shumway, Justin McNamara, Jason Aune, Justin Aune, Adam Aune, Amanda Nelson and Matt Nelson.
