Harris S. Nelson

Harris Sylvester Nelson, age 79, of Wanamingo Township, died December 22, 2009 at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund. Reverend Martin Horn will be officiating. The visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Harris was born on November 6, 1930 in Wanamingo Township to Henry and Helen (Jenson) Nelson. He graduated from country school, after which he helped his father run the family farm. Harris served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. While in the Army he was stationed in Germany. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the family farm. Upon the death of his father in 1961, Harris took over the farm. He married Peggy Garrison on July 16, 1966 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in rural Cannon Falls. Harris continued to farm until his health declined.

Harris is survived by his loving wife of forty three years, Peggy; his three children, Darcy (Robert) Hoff of Farmington, Darren (Lisa) Nelson of Mazeppa, and Stacy (Wayne) Oxendine of Suffolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Carter Hoff, Rylee Nelson, Avery, Braden, Emerson, Trey and Noah Oxendine; three siblings, Gladys (Robert) Ullevig of Apple Valley, Roger Nelson of Rochester, and Evie (Lloyd) Kunde of Kenyon; his best friend, Marvin Walstad of Zumbrota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Stella Berg and infant sister, Grace; brother-in-law, Alvin Berg; and sister-in-law, Henrietta Nelson.
