Harriette Ann Darling, 97, Galena, formerly of Lake City, died Sept. 6, 2007 at home in Galena, Illinois.

She was born in Minnesota on April 4, 1910, the daughter of Louis and Lillie (Hohenstein) Faue. She attended the University of Minnesota where she majored in Journalism and Drama. She was a writer for WCCO, the CBS radio station in Minneapolis, MN. Her program was "On the Air with Johnny Dare". During this time she married David Darling and they were both always very active in their churches, choirs and clubs. Music played a major part in their lives.

She was a member of the Minneapolis Hiking Club and she and David were charter members and officers of the Minnetonka Community Concert Association in suburban Minneapolis. After they were transferred to the Chicago area, they were co-presidents of the Hinsdale Community Concert Association. She also was very active in the Chicago Heart Association (DuPage County Division) and received an "Oscar" for her many years of dedicated service.

Their retirement years were spent in Galena, IL and Rochester and Lake City, MN.

Survivors include two daughters, Janine (Jack) Zane, Galena, IL; Lynne (Carlos) Gutierrez, Schaumburg, IL; three grandchildren, Dianne Zane (Michael) Lorento, Galena, IL; Scott David Zane, Orlando, FL; Gloria Gutierrez (Jesse) Marzell, Lombard, IL; one great grandson, Michael Zane Lorento, Galena, IL and one brother, Alfred Faue, Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and three sisters and three brothers.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Mahn Family funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City at 2:00 pm on Monday September 9th with the Rev. James Mattson officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Galena Area Emergency Medical Technicians.
