Harold "Bud" Siefert

Harold "Bud" Siefert, age 89, of Lake City, formerly of Goodhue, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Lake City Care Center, where he has resided since 2015. He was born in Lake City on May 21, 1926, to Edward and Clara (Willers) Siefert. He was baptized in June of 1926 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 by Rev. EK Scharlemann at Lincoln Trinity Church in Rural Lake City. He attended Oak Center School through 8th grade and graduated from Lake City High School, class of 1945. He was drafted into the US Army in April of 1945, two months before graduation. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in November of 1946. He belonged to the Army Reserve until 1952. He was a member of the American Legion Post 110, receiving a 50-year certificate of continuous membership and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8729 in Lake City and served on their honor guard. In December of 2011 he was able to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
On June 23, 1949, he married Julia Wiebusch at Lincoln Trinity Church by Rev. EK Scharlemann. He worked for John Peters, Sr. as a carpenter, at Oak Center Creamery and for farmers in rural Lake City, Mazeppa and Red Wing. He had his own farm near Goodhue for 30 years. He also worked after farming for Lodermier Builders and the City of Goodhue. He was a member St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served on the council a number of years. In 1991 they moved to Lake City. There he worked for Courtier Orchards, Wild Wings, J & B Pallet and Lake City Marina before retiring at the age of 80. He enjoyed woodworking, particularly wood carving, until having to quit due to Parkinson's and Dementia. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving on the Counting Committee for several years.
Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julia of Lake City; one daughter, Diane Bergman of Lake City, MN; two sons, Charles (Ruth) Siefert of Rochester, MN, David Siefert of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret (Clifford) Rabe and Loa (Floyd) Olson all of Lake City.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Saathoff; son-in-law, Dennis Saathoff; one sister, Marie Chandler; two brothers, Harry and Herbert Siefert; and one foster brother, Ira Shell.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran in Lake City, MN with Pastor Berg officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with military honors by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church or donor's choice.
