Harold E. Korsten, age 73, of Zumbrota died on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Eugene Korsten was born on December 30, 1934 in Red Wing, MN to John E. and Caroline (nee Hagre) Korsten. He grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1952. He attended and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Harold started working at J.C. Penny's in Winona and on June 9, 1957 he married Evelyn Berekvam in Winona. On August 12, 1957 he entered the U.S. Army. Harold served at Fort McPherson, GA and was honorably discharged on August 11, 1959. They returned to Winona and Harold continued to work as a manager in the Men's department at J.C. Penny's. In 1961 they moved to Zumbrota and Harold managed Zumbrota Sales and Service, an auto and implement dealership. In 1967 Harold started working for the U.S. Postal System and retired in 1992. He enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, woodworking and wood carving, metal detecting, traveling, music and was an avid reader. Harold was a member of the United Redeemer Lutheran Church and Zumbrota Golf Club. Harold is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Evie", three sons, Gregory (Lisa) Korsten of Zumbrota, Scott (Marilyn) Korsten of Sioux Falls, SD, and David Korsten of Rochester, one daughter, Deanna Hall of Princeton, eight grandchildren, Jessica, Michelle, Allison, Ariel, Alexander and Andrew Korsten, Toni and Taylor Hall. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, MaryAnn Korsten and Dolores Darsow. Casketbearers are Joe Goplen, Roger Madison, Vern Buck, Ken Quiring, Joyce Bucher and Chuck Wilts. Honorary bearers are his grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Mayo Clinic Cancer Research, United Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Zumbrota Area Historical Society.
