Harold C. Kinlund

Harold C. Kinlund age 87 of Mazeppa died on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Lake City Nursing Home. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 2, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Carl Kinlund was born on January 27, 1923 in Rosalie, NE to Carl and Gladys (nee Neill) Kinlund. He grew up in rural Rosalie and graduated from Rosalie High School in 1940. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Rosalie and on March 10, 1948 he married Udine Powley. They farmed near Rosalie until 1958 when they moved to rural Mazeppa. Udine died on December 8, 1984. Harold retired after forty years of farming and then sold real estate. Harold served on the Mazeppa Public School Board and as a Wabasha County Commissioner. He was a charter member of the Mazeppa Lions Club and also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa, Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard and Zumbro Falls VFW Post #1802. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling, visiting with friends and telling stories. Harold is survived by one son, Bruce Kinlund of Kasson and his friend Cynthia Haas; three daughters, Sheila (Jim) Schmitt of Waseca, Deborah (Ed) Stern of Goodhue and Lisa (Bob) Peterson of Mazeppa; thirteen grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Mangers, Jennifer (Tim) Neu, Beth (Augustin) Rayon, Erika (Tony Adams) Schmitt, Emily Schmitt, Paul (Jessica Crary) Schmitt) Heidi (Jeff) Miller, Brigette (Jack) Rol, Gretel Stern, Meta Stern, Ben (Hannah) Mulholland, Amanda (Dustin) Luebke and Alex Mulholland; fifteen great-grandchilden, Marek and Maddox Mangers, Tyson and Anissa Neu, Julian Rayon, Xavier Adams, Darby, Atticus and Rhett Miller, Carl, Sam and Margaret Rol, Lilian and Harold Mulholland and Natalie Luebke; one brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Kinlund of Fremont, NE, sisters-in-law, Melba Slaughter of Lyons, NE, Shirley Powley and Irma Powley of Pender, NE, and Wanda Smith of Lincoln, NE; special friends, Donald Lane, Betty Mayberry and Evelyn Post all of Mazeppa. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Udine, parents, infant brother, Darrel and grandson, Cole Stern.
