Harold Laverne Kent of Lake City, Minnesota passed away Tuesday, October 14 at the Lake City Care Center where he had been a resident for six years following a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Fayette County Iowa on May 11, 1928 to William Kenneth Kent and Hazel Weidemann Kent. Harold grew up in Iowa and graduated from Sumner Iowa High School in 1946. Harold worked as a semi truck driver for most of his adult life, mostly in the northeast United States. He was the very proud father of seven daughters and nothing on earth brought him more joy or brought a bigger grin than to talk about them. He traveled as often as he could, taking his daughters and grandchildren to Mexico, Texas, Alaska, Nebraska, and many trips to family gatherings in Iowa. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge and was a very talented and prolific card player. In 1999 Harold met Mary Warren and they traveled and enjoyed life together. Mary was a special friend to Harold and his family, bringing him great joy and companionship in his final years.
In addition to Mary Warren of Lake City he is survived by his seven daughters; Margie (Steve) Pries Nashua, NH, Peggy Knight Arlington, TX, Mary (Dennis) Grandon Wellsburg, IA, Laurie Reynolds Farmington, MN, Linda (Keith) Cooper Dodge Center, MN, Marlys (Jay) Sharp Wake Forest, NC, and Judy (Ken Sien) Kent Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He is survived by 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sisters Janet (Bud) Coon, Jane (Lloyd) Bulls, sister-in-law Marcele Kent and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, brother Kenneth (Sonny) Kent and sister Janice Kent.
A funeral service will be held at Mahn Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City at 1 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2014, followed by a graveside service at the Pleasant Prairie Dale Cemetery, Zumbro Falls and a meal at the VFW in Zumbro Falls. Visitation will be from noon - 1 at the funeral home Saturday. The family is suggesting memorials to Mayo Clinic for neurodegenerative disease research.
