Harold Edwin Johnson

Harold Johnson, 89, died peacefully at home in Red Wing on Sunday, October 11, surrounded by his family.
Harold and his wife of 65 years, Joyce, lived in Red Wing from 1949 - 1969, where they raised five children in the township of Burnside. He enjoyed his career as a medical technologist at City Hospital and Medical Block Clinic. When the clinic closed in 1969, the Johnsons moved to Mankato for 24 years before retiring in Red Wing in 1993.
Harold will be remembered as a man who was a proud veteran, devoted to his wife and his family, and loved music, gardening, and golf. He was blessed by many wonderful friends and was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elsa Johnson, his daughter, Lori Johnson, and his sister, Ruth Backes. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and four children, Carol (Jim) Bauer, Jennifer Johnson, Paul (Nancy) Johnson, Lisa (Todd) Wentz, eight grandchildren: Anthony and Neal Bauer; Kadie, Peter, Abbie and Nicolette Johnson; Blaise and Ellie Wentz; and two great grandchildren, Connor and Evan . Survivors also include his siblings, Eunice Baumgartner, Ethel Johnson, Esther Karlson, Robert (Gini) Johnson, and Paul Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.
The Johnson family would like to express their thanks for the compassionate care provided by the Mayo Hospice Team and the nursing staff at Deer Crest. It is suggested that memorial gifts be made to First United Methodist Church or designated for cancer research at Mayo Foundation.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, at United Methodist Church, 403 East Avenue, Red Wing, MN, 55066. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
