Harold John Augustin

Harold John Augustin, 80 of Red Wing, died on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing.

Harold was born in Hay Creek Minnesota on May 21st 1929. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School until 7th grade in 8th grade he attended country school in Hay Creek. He farmed until entering the service and serving in the Korean conflict until April 1953. He worked for Lloyds Produce and on some farms until he began to farm full time. He married Margaret (Westervelt) on June 27, 1958. They lived and farmed in Hay Creek. Margaret died in 1982 and he remarried Loretta (Lecy) on September 24, 1983. Loretta died in 1996. Harold continued to farm in Hay Creek until retiring in 2006. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Hay Creek, holding positions on church boards, Midland Co-op, and Hay Creek Township throughout his life.

Harold is survived by his two sons Kevin (Barbara) Augustin of Frontenac and Brian (Jenny Bauer) Augustin of Red Wing; two step-sons Todd Peterson of Red Wing and Scott Peterson of the Twin Cities; daughter-in-law Jody Augustin of Red Wing; grandchildren Marissa, Tyson, Nick, Branden, Becca, Curtis, Haley, Tyler, and Aaron; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Emily; siblings Orville (Margie) Augustin of Red Wing, Hilda Wendel of Schaller, Iowa, Ruth (Larry) Hanusch of Roeland Park, Kansas; brothers-in-law Bill Kull St. Charles, MO and Melvin Alms of Mankato; sisters-in-law Phyllis Abel of Spencer Iowa and Alsine Augustin Kansas City. Harold is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret, second wife Loretta, two sons Randy and Danny, brothers Hilbert, Martin, Linus, Julius, sisters Frida and Linda.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek with Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. Pallbearers will be Joe Tousignant, John Wendel, Bob Augustin, Mike Augustin, Rev. Dave Fredrickson, Luke Augustin. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
