Harley E. Anderson age 86 of Lake City passed away March 15, 2009 at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Harley was born May 19, 1922 in Lake City, MN to Niles E. & Alvina (Fuhrman) Anderson. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1941. Harley was drafted into the Army November 16, 1942, he served during WW II. He was stationed in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters of War. He was discharged February 7, 1946. Harley returned to Lake City and worked for the City of Lake City as a meter reader until retiring. He was a Life Member of the Lake City VFW Post 8729, and Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City. He enjoyed watching the Twins Baseball games and traveling.
Harley is survived by a sister, Betty Slauson of Lake City; three half nephews, John Pilger of Atlanta, GA, Don Pilger of St. Paul, MN, John Halpaus of Red Wing; one half niece, Nancy Blackard of Pinon Hill, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a half brother, John Halpaus Sr. and two half sister, Ida Pilger and Hazel Key.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City with the Rev. Bruce Stam officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post #110.
