Red Wing

Gwen Rae Kohner, age 66, of Red Wing, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in her sleep. Born on June 27, 1958, in South St. Paul to Glen and Darlene (Clemens) Schindeldecker, she grew up in Cannon Falls and was a 1976 graduate of Cannon Falls High School. In 1977 Gwen started her own in-home daycare, dedicating her heart and soul to nurturing and caring for numerous children until her retirement in 2004. After her retirement, she worked part-time at Gernentz Auto as well as a home health aide for Accra Home Health Care. On April 25, 1987, she married Steve Kohner, and the two have celebrated the past 37 years of life together.

Gwen's vibrant personality shone brightly throughout her life. She was a beacon of positivity, always upbeat, smiling, and friendly. Her joyful spirit radiated, especially within her family, where she was not just a devoted mother but also a very busy and loving GG. Gwen took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, creating countless memories filled with laughter and love. She cherished baking with her grandchildren, sharing moments of joy that gathered them around the kitchen, and found delight in shopping adventures, weekend getaways to the camper, and traveling with Steve and her family after retirement.

Gwen was a dedicated member of First Lutheran Church, where she actively participated in the quilting group and volunteered her time wherever needed and was also associated with Faith in Action.

Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Steve Kohner of Red Wing; children, Jessica (Wes) Bollingmo of Jordan, MN, Tim Kohner of Joshua Tree, CA, Chad (Jess) Niebeling of Red Wing, Tricia (Cory) Harris of Red Wing, Matt (Jessica) Kohner of Hastings, and Melissa (Carolyn) Kohner of Midland, MI. She was a proud grandmother to her twelve grandchildren, Heather, Kayla, Noah, Jordyn, Alex, Haidyn, Carter, Harper, Landon, Scarlett, Wyatt, and Griffin, and she adored her two great-grandchildren, Luca and Cooper. Gwen is also survived by her cherished siblings, Dawn Lobejko of Blaine, Tammy (Tom) Wadley of Red Wing, and Scott (Tiffany) Schindeldecker of Winona, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
