Gwen E. Johnson

Gwendolyn "Gwen" Ena Johnson, 85, of Red Wing, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at Deer Crest Assisted Living. She was born December 4, 1933 to Dorothy Campbell in Halifax Nova Scotia, where she grew up and attended school until the age of 16, when she moved to MN with her uncle, Ray Campbell. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1951 and then worked at the Red Wing Hospital and Munson Dray Line. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Waldo Johnson on September 19, 1953. Gwen raised her family and took care of the house, along with doing bookkeeping for the family business, Johnson Pump Service. On May 1, 1965 she became a United States Citizen, something she was very proud of. She was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed many church activities. She loved to cook, entertain, listen to music and watch her MN Vikings. Gwen loved traveling and seeing the ocean, her favorite place being the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Her husband Waldo "Papa" meant the world to her, and he passed away in 1998.



She is survived by four children, Steven (Sue) Johnson, Vicki Lawrence, Mark (Katie) Johnson, Ann Bengs all of Red Wing; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother Grant Davey of Moncton, NB; sisters, Judy (Rollie) MacDonald, Linda Tucker and Carolyn Moore all of Pictou, NS and Beth Clements of High Bank, PEI and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Davey; step-father, Leon Davey; husband, Waldo; infant brother, Allan; brother, Bruce (Diane) Davey and son-in-law, Jeff Lawrence.



Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church with Reverend Paul Fleischer officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Red Wing Hospice or the church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
