ROCHESTER - Gregory "Greg" Redmond, age 49, of Rochester, died Saturday Jan. 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with an aggressive brain tumor.
Gregory James Redmond was born Aug. 4, 1967 in St. James, MN to Daryl and Dianne (Gilling) Redmond. Greg grew up in Willmar, MN and graduated from high school there in 1985. He pursued a career in law enforcement before owning and operating Gateway Residential Services in Benson, MN and a boys' group home in Willmar, MN. He graduated from Rochester Community and Technical College with a degree in nursing. Greg was a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital working in an Orthopedic Unit, and the last eight years in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. On Oct. 15, 1999 he married Michelle L. Zellmer in Mankato, MN. She is also a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's. Greg enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and loved animals.
Survivors include his wife Michelle, his two sons Carson and Connor, and his daughter, Kasey all at home; his mother Dianne (Wayne) Redmond-Carlson of Willmar; two brothers Brad (Laura) Redmond, and Brian (Claudia) Redmond, both of Willmar, and his sister Kimberly (Jim) Sirek of Burnsville, MN. and nieces. His father Daryl Redmond and his sister Julie Redmond preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Heidorn officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood East Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
