Grant Sundby

d. February 8, 2007

Grant George Sundby, 80, of Red Wing died Thursday at Fairview Seminary Home. He was born in Red Wing on October 11, 1926 to George and Meta (Joost) Sundby. He was known in his early years for his red wagon and later on for his power wheel chair with ?Grant? written on the back and a red flag, along with a big smile on his face. The fact that he was crippled from birth never deterred him. He was known for his big smile and loved people, especially children whom he would play checkers with down at Colvill Park. Most of all was his love for Jesus his Savior. He would listen to gospel music for hours, recording every new song that he heard, to share with others. Each week he enjoyed going for rides with his family out in the country. He was an avid post card and stamp collector, ham radio operator, and an oil painter. He played a big part in handicap accessibility and cross walks. He was the first resident at Jordan Towers with a handicap apartment. For 20 years he lived at Jordan Towers and since 1999 he has resided at Fairview Seminary Home. He is survived by two sisters, Janell (Mervin) Parr and Carol (Wayne) Knopic both of Amery, Wis.; five nieces; one great niece, and many cousins and other relatives. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Wayne Knopic and Mervin Parr officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Knopic, Mike Thomas, Jim Krause, and Todd Fladwood. Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the funeral home.
