Grace Virginia Gove Tuchek, 106, of Wacouta died Wednesday, Feb 19 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing.
Grace was born in Red Wing on Nov. 3, 1907 to George and Emma Olive (Derickson) Gove. She delighted in telling stories of growing up in Burnside Township and especially liked to tell about riding to school in a horse drawn sleigh and quickly learning to swim in the Cannon River. Grace graduated from Red Wing High School in 1925 and attended the local teacher's college. She taught in a one room school and for many years enjoyed working at the Citizen's Fund Insurance Company.
Grace loved married life and outlived all three of her husbands. Her lucky husbands were Stanley "Red" Knudson, Victor Larson and Clifford Tuchek. She and Stanley had one son Keith Knudson who also preceded Grace in death.
Grace delighted in living. She had an uncanny ability to live in the present and move forward no matter what. The joy she took in ordinary days was extraordinary and likely contributed to her long and rich life.
Grace had many loves. Cats, coffee, poker and a good book were always welcome. Grace was a passionate sports fan. She especially loved football at all levels and she never lost faith in her Vikings. She won almost every NCAA bracket she filled out and a wise person would never wager with her on the Kentucky Derby. Gracie loved to entertain with coffee hour in the morning and happy hour in the afternoon. She loved her annual trip to Bearskin Lake on the Gunflint Trail. Gracie never missed voting in an election and was always pleased with a democratic victory. She was proud to be a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was their oldest member and a member for more years than anyone else in the congregation.
Most of all Grace loved "her people" and she freely let them know. It was always wonderful to be in that large group as she treated all of her people as if they were special when in fact she was the one who was oh so special.
Grace joins her parents, her husbands, her son, her sister Helen Lindell and brothers George, Joseph, William and Robert Gove. She will be dearly missed by her sister in law Betty Gove, niece Andrea (Bill) Critchfield, nephews Jeff (Pat) Chan (Sue), and Nate (Lori) Gove, grandchildren by marriage Noreen (Michael) Carlson, Julie Nelson (Paul Feroe) and Susan (Stephen) Betcher and many grands and great grands a few great great grands of all types.
Family, friends and all who cared for Grace are invited to a gathering of remembrance
and celebration on March 8 at 1:30pm at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Red Wing.
