Grace Elizabeth Ryan, 87, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at her home at Potter Ridge. She was born on August 24, 1924 in Red Wing to George and Ellen (Anderson) Hawke. She graduated in 1942 from Red Wing Central High School. For a number of years she worked at J.C. Penny as a cashier and bookkeeper. Later she moved to Florida, where she worked as a stewardess on a private yacht. On April 26, 1949 she married Tom Ryan of Belle Creek in Melbourne, Florida. They owned and operated Red Wing Distributing for 27 years. For 20 years they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Tom died on May 16, 2006. Grace was a member of the Church of St. Joseph and volunteered for the Fairview Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, cardinals and flower gardening.
Survivors include her six children, Randal (Debra) of Hager City, Susan (Robert Wilson) of Red Wing, Debra (Bob Osgood) Jeske of Red Wing, JoAn (Jon) Bittner of Crookston, Robert (Carol) of Red Wing and Timothy (Kirsten) of St. Louis Park; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one sister, Marguerite Bang. She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Millie Juhlin, Dorothy Gage, Ruby Bartsch and Phyllis Mix; one brother, George Hawke; son-in-law, Ken Jeske, Jr. on December 19, 2009, great-granddaughter, Ashley Bitner and her cat, Elsa.
Mass of Resurrection will be 5 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service, at the church.
