Grace Vivian Erickson

Grace Rose Erickson, 77, Red Wing, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Fairview Seminary Home. She was born November 29, 1930, in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, the third of four children of Mauritz and Frances (Carlson) Rose. During the early years of her life the family moved around frequently, eventually settling in Reads Landing, Minnesota when she was five years old. They moved to Red Wing around 1944. Grace was a 1948 graduate of Red Wing High School and the Red Wing Vocational School in the secretarial program. She worked as a bookkeeper at Ben Franklin and the F. W. Woolworth stores for a number of years. She married Dale Erickson on May 24, 1958, at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing. They farmed in Maiden Rock Township. She was an active farm wife, always helping with the farm chores. She was an active member of Lund Covenant church where she served as president of the church board for a few years, as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, as a leader for the youth group called Covenant Trailblazers, a leader of Covenant Women, as the church treasurer and many other church activities. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and sewing. In 2000, she and her husband retired to Red Wing where she attended First Covenant Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Red Wing; one daughter, Mary (Robert) Mach of LaCrescent; one grandson, Matthew Mach of LaCrescent; three sisters, Gladys (Marlin) Sundvall of Stockholm and Madeline Pearson and Bernice Jensen, both of Red Wing; nieces and nephews, including Bob Jensen who lived with them at times. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lund Covenant Church with Reverend Greg Satterberg and Reverend Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert and James Erickson, Robert and Richard Jensen and Alfred and Daniel Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Loberg, Robert Halverson and Jeff Erickson. Visitation will be 5-7 p. m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
