Gordon "Marvin" Starr, Owl Tail Feathers, 75, of Prairie Island, died Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Red Wing Health Center. Gordon was born July 12, 1936, in Elbow Woods, North Dakota, the son of Ike Price and Jesse Starr. He grew up in Elbow Woods and attended school there. As a child his family relied on horses for many things and he was always around them. He even used to say he was born on a horse! A strong familiarity and love for horses helped lead him into his career of being involved with and performing in Rodeos. Marvin was also deeply involved with the Native American traditional ways and customs. He often attended and sang at Native American Pow Wows. He was a well-known singer throughout Indian Country and he sang with the Porcupine and Badland Singers in South Dakota and Montana. Marvin married Ann White on February 22, 2000, and they lived in Prairie Island and Ft. Yates, North Dakota.

He is survived by his wife, Nora "Ann" Starr of Prairie Island; children: Jim (Sharon) Starr, Marvine (Larry) Fasthorse, Dale Starr and Ronnie Starr, all of Ft. Yates, ND, Rebecca (Jon) Brady of Newtown, ND, Jodi (Rusty) Gillette of Washington, D.C., Amber (Shawn) Danforth of Billings, MT, and Denny Medicine Bird of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren: Brandon & Larson Fasthorse, Danielle, Kasey, Tyler, Tyk Marvin and Darrien Starr, Johnnie Johnson, Lloyd & Rylan Hamilton, Cheyenne, Johnna & Toiree Ann Brady, Coral & George Gillette, True Ann Danforth and Gracelynn and George Ann Growing Thunder and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Louise Holding Eagle; great-grandson, Kingston Kuntz and a son, Lorren Starr.

Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Prairie Island Community Center with Jim Clairmont officiating. Visitation will begin on Saturday, December 3, at 3pm and will preceded until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Prairie Island Community Cemetery.
