Gordon Edwin Foss, age 91, of Lake City passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Windcliff Senior Care in Lake City. He was born on July 22, 1924 in Caledonia, MN to Edwin and Leni (Sheire) Foss. His family moved to Wabasha when he was a year old. Gordon lived in Wabasha until the age of 15, when the family moved to Cochrane, WI. He graduated from Cochrane High School in 1942 and enlisted in the US Navy the following year. He served as a hospital corpsman in numerous medical facilities and on the aircraft carrier CVE Vella Gulf until his honorable discharge on April 11, 1946. Gordon married Myra Marie Hendricks only a few weeks later on April 27 of the same year. He then attended Winona State Teacher's College from 1946-1951, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. He taught business education at Goodhue High School from 1951-1955 and in Lake City from 1955-1986. During that time, he served as yearbook advisor and co-advisor to the Future Secretaries of America. Gordon was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City, where he sang in the choir for 30 years. In his early retirement, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, skiing, and motorcycling. For the past two years, he had enjoyed the company of his caretakers and other residents at Windcliff Senior Care in Lake City.
Gordon is survived by his son, Bradley Edwin (Charlyne) Foss of Brooklyn Park; daughter, Nancy Leni (Craig) Campbell of Danbury, WI; three grandchildren, Brent (Melanie Carlson) Foss of Otsego, Michelle (Jeff) Okerstrom of Savage, and Christopher (Jes) Campbell of Sartell; six great-grandchildren, Jade and Brooklyn Foss, Jaxon and Mason Okerstrom, and Taylor and Kylah Corcoran; and several nephews, a niece, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; granddaughter, Katie Campbell; parents; and his only brother, Romaine Foss.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Tim Ehling officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel - Lake City.
