Glenn Kennard Freiberg, 85, of Red Wing, died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born November 30, 1929, in Ipswich, South Dakota, to Ernest and Mary (VanPelt) Freiberg and in 1936, his family moved to Minnesota. He graduated from Annandale High School and in 1948 he joined the US Air Force, serving until he was honorably discharged in 1952. On September 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to June Nelson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato, Minnesota. He worked for Harmon Glass in Minneapolis and transferred to Hiawatha Glass in Red Wing where he was a manager. He joined the IRC as a supervisor and worked there until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, he and June traveled all 50 states and many other countries. They wintered in Arizona and he greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking in all of their events--especially their hockey and baseball games. Glenn was a member of United Lutheran Church, the Leo C. Peterson #54 American Legion and served on the honor guard; Burnson-Lillyblad VFW #1218 and the BPOE #845.
He is survived by his wife, June; children, Renee (Loren) Linder, Diane (Richard Forsell) Anderson; six grandchildren, Jordan (Sarah) Anderson, Kyle (Kortney) Anderson and Mac Anderson and Becky, Natalie and Crystal Linder; four great-grandchildren, Augden and Anthony Johnson and Kennedy and Sydney Anderson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Albert, Harold, Awalt and Omar Freiberg and Arlene Smith.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial with full military honors by Leo C. Peterson American Legion will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A Legion Prayer Service will be 7 p.m. at the visitation. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association or United Lutheran Church.
