OBITUARY: Gladys A. Tomfohrde
Funeral services for Gladys A. Tomfohrde will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 19, 2007 at St. John's Lutheran Church-Bear Valley in rural Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Music will be provided by Marla Tupper. Casketbearers will be Willmar Sommerfield, Steve Liffrig, Dennis Kirtz, Terry Tomfohrde, Bob Josselyn and Marvin Arndt. Honorary Bearers will be all her grandchildren. Burial will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery-Bear Valley. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church-Bear Valley or WELS.
Gladys, age 84, of Mazeppa died on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Lake City Nursing Home. She was born Gladys Alvina Ohlhaber on June 6, 1923 in Chester Township, Wabasha County, MN to Carsten and Ida (Wohlers) Ohlhaber. She attended country school in Wabasha County and on August 14, 1954 married Leroy Hein Tomfohrde in Lake City, MN. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed the Tomfohrde home place for over 30 years before moving to the Ponderosa Supper Club area in 1984. They lived there until 1997 when they moved to the Mazeppa area. Leroy died on January 16, 2003. In 2004, Gladys entered the Lake City Nursing Home. Gladys was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church-Bear Valley and a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting, rug making, sewing, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Gladys is survived by four sons: Randy (Becky) of Byron, MN, Ricky of Rochester, MN, Roger (Marilyn) of Lake City, MN and Russell (Mindy) of Mazeppa, MN; ten grandchildren: Paul of Mankato, MN, Angela (Jeffrey Moyer) of Westmont, IL, Matthew (Tanya) of Crete, IL, Stephanie of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Alicia (Chad Moyer) of Beemer, NE, Carmen of Lake City, MN, Peter of Minneapolis, MN, Eric of Lake City, MN, Cassanda of Rochester, MN, Tamara of Duluth, MN; one great granddaughter, Josephine Moyer of Beemer, NE; one sister, Evelyn Kirtz of Lake City, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant daughter, Kathy and one brother, Orlin.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
