Gladys Lucille Nelson, 104, of Red Wing, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Fairview Seminary Home. She was born on June 5, 1907 in Minneapolis to Samuel and Mary Swanson. On January 6, 1926 she married John "Jack" Nelson. They farmed for 35 years in Luck, Wisconsin and Welch, Minnesota. John died in December of 1968. Gladys was a seamstress and made clothes for friends and others. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting making footsies, afghans and doilies.
Survivors include one son, Robert (Carol) Nelson of Red Wing; six grandchildren, Valerie (Brian) Densmore of Kansas City, Missouri, Craig (Peggy) Nelson of Kenan, Wisconsin, Theresa Maples of Red Wing, Douglas Nielson of Red Wing, Elaine Zunk of Portland, Oregon and Gregory Weisbrich of Northbend, Washington along with numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Ruth Weisbrich; three brothers and two sisters.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Red Wing Fairview Seminary Home.
