Gladys Carol LeCuyer

September 21, 2026 — March 19, 2011

Funeral services for Gladys LeCuyer will be held Saturday, March 26th at 1:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The Reverend Karna Hagen will officiate. Mrs. LeCuyer, 84, of Rochester, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Gladys Carol Benson was born September 21, 1926 in Minneapolis, the daughter of John and Frances (nee Binggold) Benson. A graduate of Minneapolis's South High School in 1944, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone, in the billing department, after graduation for about eight years. She married Harlan L. LeCuyer on January 14, 1949 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. As a stay-at-home mom with small children, she used her sewing skills to make clothes for the kids and herself, and later when she became an advanced level square dancer, would sew her own outstanding costumes as well as matching shirts for Harlan. She also dabbled in ceramics, painting, furniture refinishing, made quilts for all the beds, made curtains and drapes for the windows, and on and on. In short, she tried everything and did it well, including becoming an outstanding cook. She was very adventurous as a cook and served very interesting meals. During their second year of marriage, she helped Harlan build their first modest home themselves. During the course of their marriage they moved ten times, primarily due to Harlan's career with the U.S. government, so her skills were put to good use. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, home decorating, square dancing, round dancing, gardening, and any craft you can name. These skills gradually diminished, then disappeared over the past ten years as a result of a chain of physical ailments which robbed her of previous capabilities, the worst being Alzheimer's, and needing constant care by her husband during this time. During the course of their sixty-two year marriage, they traveled extensively with their children, visiting all of the lower forty-eight states and Hawaii, and after retirement traveled to many foreign countries.

She is survived by her husband, Harlan LeCuyer of Rochester; sons, Gregg (Debra) LeCuyer of Woodbury, Trent (Marilyn) LeCuyer of Raleigh, North Carolina, Scott (Linda) LeCuyer also of Raleigh, and Brian (Kathy) LeCuyer of Columbus, Nebraska; a daughter, Deborah (Don) Larson of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Benson of Scottsdale, Arizona; and a sister, Viola McAndrews of Golden Valley, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 brothers, John and George Benson.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
