Gladys E. Lane, age 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away February 3, 2014, at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa, KS. Gladys was born March 14, 1921, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Inga (Larson) Severson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Red Wing, MN graduating with the class of 1938. For over 20 years Gladys worked as a seamstress making custom draperies while in Minnesota. Gladys lived in Anthony, KS. for 24 years where she raised her family and helped out as a Girl Scout leader.
Gladys was very active in church her whole life. Growing up she attended United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. In Ottawa, Gladys attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway in Red Wing.
Gladys loved her family and was the family genealogist and photographer. Gladys enjoyed letter writing and sent cards often. Gladys was known to be subtle, always having a sneaky way to get her point across.
Gladys was united in marriage with Lyman Lawrence Lane on October 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Lyman preceded her in death on December 9, 1965.
Gladys is also preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Ione Severson, a brother, Eddie Severson, and a grandson, Richard Cook.
She is survived by two sisters; Lornie Van Gilder, and husband Maury, Red Wing, MN; Joyce Anderson, Red Wing, MN; sister-in-law, Jo Severson, Red Wing, MN; daughter, Lynda Brazil, and husband Bill, Winfield, KS; daughter, Jeannie Hendrix, and husband Walker, Lawrence, KS; daughter Mary Cole, and husband Gary, Ottawa, KS; eight grandchildren David, Casey, Brian, Stacy, Amy, Ben, Drew, and Will; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15th at Mahn Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
