Gladys Ione Barghusen, 85, of Red Wing, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on November 1, 1922, to Clarence and Myrtle (Johnson) Martenson in Goodhue Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1942. On September 14, 1946, she was married to Maynard Barghusen in Red Wing. They lived in Red Wing and for a short time she worked at Red Wing Shoe Company and Durkee-Atwood. Maynard died on February 13, 1990. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, quilted and was involved with the church circles. She enjoyed collecting dolls and chickens, going to garage sales and loved animals, especially her dog Peanuts. Her family remembers her for the love that she gave each of them over the years. She was a very special mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Survivors include three sons; Clayton of Minneapolis, Craig and Gary (Sheri) all of Red Wing; one daughter, Cheryl (Alan) Jeske of Red Wing; three grandchildren, Laurie (Willie) Benway, Christopher Jeske and Carrie (Lucas) Armstrong; four great grandchildren; Belen and Mya Benway and Jasmyn and Myles Armstrong and one brother, Lloyd (Jean) Martenson of Vasa. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Eunice Nadeau and one brother, Curtis Martenson.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rolland and Bruce Nadeau, Alan and Christopher Jeske, Willie Benway and Duane Martenson. Honorary pallbearers will be Belen and Mya Benway and Jasmyn and Myles Armstrong. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the Goodhue County Humane Society.
