Gilman C. Swenson age 95 of Silver Bay, formerly of Wanamingo died on Wednesday morning, November 15, 2006 at the Minnesota Veteran?s Home in Silver Bay. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Rob Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be in Lands Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Gilman Clarence Swenson was born on June 11, 1911 in rural Wanamingo to Swen O. and Mina (nee Steberg) Swenson. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Gilman farmed with his father and on January 24, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in France with Patton?s Third Army and was awarded the Bronze Star. Gilman was honorably discharged on January 5, 1945 and returned to the Wanamingo area and continued farming. He was a member of Lands Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed and Quamme VFW Post #186 in Wanamingo. Gilman never married. Gilman is survived by three nephews, Roger (Karen) Swenson, Donald (Helen) Monson and Robert (Mary) Monson. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Clara Loken, Mabel Swenson, Lillian Sykora and Selma Monson, two brothers, Oscar Swenson and Alton Swenson and one niece Carol Swenson.
