Giles Lampman

Giles Erwin Lampman, 79, Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at his residence. He was born May 15, 1929 in Red Wing, the son of Erwin Giles and Betty (Zahn) Lampman. He was a 1947 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. He married Billie Ward in 1948 and they later divorced. He married Carol Cross on March 11, 1961 in Nashua, Iowa. He enlisted in the U. S. Army National Guard, serving with Company B 135th Infantry National Guard, Red Wing. He was called to active duty with the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division, serving January, 1951 through September, 1952 in Korea. He retired from the Guard as a captain after serving for 22 years. . He worked for Benke Construction in Rochester, Red Wing Flower Mills, and for Foley Brothers Construction Co. on the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant. He was an avid sports fan and in his younger days he was active with the American Legion Baseball team. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Burnson-Lillyblad Post #1218 and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #1218 and was a member of the Red Men Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Red Wing; five children: Rosa (Omer) Oden of Jasper, TX, Carrick (Linda) Lampman of Welch, Michael Lampman of Beaumont, TX, Denice (Brian) Girdeen of Maiden Rock, April (Steve) Ingalls of Prescott, WI; his step-mother, Virginia Lampman of Red Wing; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Duane (Darlene) Lampman of Big Lake, MN and Eugene (Marilee) Lampman of Red Wing; three sisters: Fayette (Michael) Cochran of Orlando, FL, Marlene Dunn of Red Wing, Roxanne Johnson of Red Wing; many nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephew, Sheila, Anita and Mike who lived with the family a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two great-grandsons.

Funeral will be 10 a. m. Saturday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Father Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday with an American Legion prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
