He completed 10th grade and then left to help out his father on their farm while his older brother was serving in the military.
In 1952, Gil enlisted in the Air Force and served for 4 years. He studied for his GED while serving our country. With the help of the G.I. bill, he attended School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. He obtained an electrical engineering degree and is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
Gil and a good friend of his went to a local diner in Rolla, where he noticed an attractive young woman helping to serve food. They have been married for 66 years and 2 days. After completing his degree, Gil was hired by IBM and moved his family to Endicott, NY in 1960. By 1963, Gil moved his family to Rochester, MN to follow his electrical engineering research and development career. Here in Rochester they raised their three children.
Gil worked for IBM for 30 years and was retired for 33 years. He was blessed with this time to be gardening, fishing, resting on his sun porch at the lake and playing cards with his friends. Gil was a storyteller, too.
Being 91 years old at his death he had seen, heard and learned many things about life. He would freely share it with anyone about how you needed to be educated to make headway in this life.
