Gilbert Hagre age 86 of Lake City formerly of Pine Island died on Monday, September 14, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with Reverend Paul Reppe officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery.
Gilbert Hagre was born on May 23, 1923 on the family farm in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to John and Alice (nee Taylor) Hagre. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural country school in Goodhue County through the 8th grade. On August 23, 1953 he married Darlene J. Schindler in Berne, MN. They made their home in Pine Island. Gilbert worked for local farmers and Hess Lumber, Wanamingo Lumber and Pine Island Lumber. He hauled can milk for Minnesota Cheese. He purchased his own milk route and used his strong work ethic to run his route for many years. Darlene died on November 14, 1974. Also in 1974 Gilbert started driving semi for Land-O-Lakes in Pine Island. He drove for Land-O-Lakes until he retired in 1985. In the spring of 1976 he married Barbara Fahy. They made their home in Pine Island until May 1986 when they moved to Lake City. Barbara died in December 1995. Gilbert was on the Volunteer Fire Department in Pine Island from 1967 - 1975 and he was an avid bowler for years. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Gilbert is survived by his children, Dan (Diane) Hagre of Littleton, CO, Deb (Keith) Hillier of Rochester, Dave (Susan) Hagre of Mantorville and Dana (Peggy) Hagre of Franktown, CO, grandchildren, Heather (Brandon) Clapp, Meagan Lewis, Kaila Hillier, Arielle Hillier, Darin Hagre and Andrew (Angela) Miller, great grandson, Jaden Clapp, sister, Mable Trelstad of Wanamingo, sister-in-law, Rosemary Fosland of Reedsburg, WI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two wives, his parents, five sisters and one brother.
