Gertrude M Hofschulte

September 8, 2010 — March 4, 2011

Gertrude M (Darcy) Hofschulte, age 100, died peacefully on Friday March 4, 2011 at Zumbrota Health Services in Zumbrota.
Gertrude M Darcy was born on September 8, 1910, at her home in rural Chester Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota. She was the 2nd of 9 children born to Edward ad Mary (Peters) Darcy. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School in Bellechester and graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1929. She and her sister Ruth attended business school in Minneapolis. Gertrude traveled through Oregon, Washington, and California to visit with relatives and worked in the aerospace industry for the war effort during the 1930's and the 40's. She married Conrad Hofschulte on July 7, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. For 28 years she and her husband, "Coonie" owned and managed the tavern in Bellechester, known as "Coonie's". They sold the tavern and retired in 1975, moving to a new home in Mazeppa, where they resided together until Conrad's death on August 15, 1982. In 2000, she entered the Zumbrota Care Facility where she was lovingly cared for by the staff and nurses for 10+ years.
Gertrude certainly left her mark on the earth and touched the lives of many. She was devoted to and selflessly cared for many of her family, nieces & nephews, aunts, and her mom, all of her life.
Gertrude is survived by her brother, Lawrence (Edna) Darcy of Mazeppa. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Edwin, Joseph, Donald (Ann, and Vincent; and three sisters, Ruth Darcy-Ornstein, Rosella Riley, and Margaret Nevinger.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday March 12, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
