Gertrude B. Halvorsen, age 95 of Red Wing died on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing.
Gertrude was born on June 29, 1913 in Red Wing to Daniel and Mathilda (Staiger) Metzler. She grew up in red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1931. After graduation she became a bookkeeper for Wilson Hardware. She was united in marriage to Willard Halvorsen on September 10, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Wing. Willard died on August 15, 1984. Gertrude enjoyed crocheting, going for rides with her kids, shopping, playing bingo, listening to music (especially Christmas music). She enjoyed her raising her children and going on picnics at Colvill and Bay Point Parks.
Gertrude is survived by her children; Judy (Jerome) Mann of Goodhue, Daniel Halvorsen of St. Paul, Mary (Don) Brunner of Fridley, Frances (Alan) Schwartz of Elgin, MN, James (Kay) Halvorsen of Red Wing, Robert (Debra) Halvorsen of Peru, IL, Martha (Bill) Schommer of Hastings, Paula (Charles) Casey of Beldenville, WI, Patty (Kevin) Betterly of Northfield, and Joni (Douglas) Kuhn of Kansas City, MO; 30 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one sister Helen Lillyblad of Red Wing; one brother Joseph (Carmen) Metzler of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willard, four sisters Florence, Irene, Peggy, and Josephine; and one brother Dan Metzler.
Mass of Ressurection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Church of Saint Joseph in Red Wing with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 � 7 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and also one hour prior to Mass at the church.
