Gertrude E. Dicke, 86, of Red Wing, died Sunday at St. Brigid's at Hi Park. The daughter of William and Maria (Reese) Vieths, she was born on December 14, 1920, in Goodhue Township. She attended schools in rural Goodhue and graduated from Goodhue High School and later completed teacher training in Red Wing. She taught school in rural Goodhue and Pine Island. On October 2, 1943 she married Virgil Dicke at St. John's Lutheran in rural Goodhue. They farmed in Featherstone Township until moving to Red Wing in 1990. Virgil died on March 8, 2003. Gertrude was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Fairview Red Wing Auxiliary, and the Goodhue County Rural Homemakers Club. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and gardening.
Survivors include seven children, Janell (Henry) Janhsen of Amarillo, TX, Betty (August) Ziegler of Perham, MN, James (Sue) Dicke of Red Wing, Dale (Gail) of Goodhue, Amy (Edward) Gadient of Pine Island, Lyle (Shannon) Dicke of Goodhue, and Donna (Muril) Niebuhr of Zumbrota; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Lorena Stemmann of Red Wing. Preceded by Husband; sisters, Esther Diercks and Irma Vieths; brothers, Edwin and Harry.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek with Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan Janhsen, Nathan Ziegler, Patrick Gadient, Kevin Niebuhr, Adam, Micah, Alan, and Charlie Dicke. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at church.
