Geraldine Rebecca Schmidt

August 18, 1927 — February 2, 2020

Geraldine "Geri" Rebecca Schmidt, 92, of Red Wing, died on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the Lake City Care Center. She was born in Red Wing on August 18, 1927, to Harold and Norma (Vieths) Bremer. She grew up on farms in Goodhue and Featherstone Townships. She graduated from Goodhue High School in 1945 and from St. John's School of Nursing in 1948 as a Registered Nurse. She was united in marriage to Jerome F. Schmidt on September 10, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. Geri spent 40 years working at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing. Her time as a nurse was mostly spent taking care of new mothers. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. John's Church in Red Wing. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed cross-stitching. She also enjoyed spending time with and caring for her grandchildren, and spending time with her wonderful friends and fellow nurses.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Niles) Korsten of Red Wing and Jean (Tom) Renschen of Red Wing; son, Dan Schmidt of Red Wing; and step-son, Rodney (Carol) Schmidt of Red Wing; grandchildren, Kacie Korsten, Kelsey (Mitch) Anderson, Katie Renschen, Garrett (Aly Brinkman) Renschen, Natalie Renschen, Thomas Schmidt, and Marcus Schmidt; step-grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Beach and Laurie (Eric) Hildebrandt; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Bremer of Red Wing; one sister, Carol (Bob) May of Beaufort, NC; sister-in-law, Donna (Jerry) Kyllo of Red Wing; special godchild, Gwen Stehr; special friend, Peggy O'Connor and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry in 1980; son, Tom in 1975; and brother, Neal Bremer.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Peter Sternberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church. Arrangements made by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Geri's children would like to thank the staffs of Loving Residence and the Lake City Care Center for the loving care of their mother.
