Geraldine "Gerry" Landers, 90, of Red Wing, formerly of Winona, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born October 8, 1925 to Oscar E. and Eleanora A. Landers in Lewiston, MN. She was a graduate of Winona Public Schools. She then attended the University of Minnesota and Winona State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in music education and history. Music became the focal center of Gerry's professional life. She first taught music in the Opheim, Montana public school for two years and then, for several years, taught private lessons in Winona at the Edstrom School of Music. She later joined the creative staff at Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation as an editor and then writer of keyboard publications. For the last eight years of her professional life, she served as manager of the Hal Leonard Composition Department. Gerry was an instrumentalist, majoring in oboe and clarinet and over the years played in various organizations including the Winona High School band and orchestra, the University of Minnesota band and orchestra as well as the Winona State University concert band. She also performed for many years with the Winona Municipal Band. In her retirement years, Gerry enjoyed gardening, crafting and traveling.
Gerry is survived by two nephews, Denny (Joanne) Landers of Lake City and Rick (Patti) Landers of Red Wing; two nieces, Judy (Douglas) Fleming and Rochelle (Tim) Pervisky, both of Trempealeau, WI; and many great nieces, nephews, and other family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Allen and Oliver; and a niece, Barbara Zimmerman.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Barbara von Haaren officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Lewiston Cemetery.
