Gerald "Nibs" Joseph Niebeling

Gerald "Nibs" Joseph Niebeling, 70 of Welch, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 25, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on January 14, 1944 in Red Wing, son of Edwin and Ella (Thomforde) Niebeling. Gerald attended Red Wing Central High School graduating in 1962. On June 22, 1963, he married Mildred "Millie" Scheitel. He worked for Singer Sewing Machine in Winona before beginning his career as a tool salesman. He truly enjoyed being a salesman and had worked for various places, including Snap On Tools. He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and in his younger years was a member of the Red Wing City League Basketball Association. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and was on a bowling league. He was an avid fan of the Red Wing Hockey team and the Minnesota Gopher's Hockey team. Camping was a favorite past time throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching television, Christmas, bird watching, and going to his children and grandchildren's events.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Millie, of Welch; two sons, Troy Niebeling of Washington and Kim Niebeling of Winona; five grandchildren, Sarah Niebeling of Washington, Whitney Niebeling of Kellogg, Janessa Henderson of Lake City, and Samuel and Matthew Niebeling of Woodville, WI; four siblings, Margaret Books of Florida, Evelyn Poole of Rosemount, Jim (Linda) Niebeling of Red Wing, and Davis (Karen) Niebeling of Bay City.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norbert, Lawrence, Dean, and Robert Niebeling; and sisters, Emily Dutcher, Arlene Morrison, June McCleary, Donna Blair, Lucille Heitman, Ruth McCleary, Angeline Doerr, and Mary Jane Niebeling.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, with Reverend Robert Berthold officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
