Gerald B. Koenig age 75 of Pine Island died on Tuesday evening, July 31, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A memorial mass is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island with Father Harry Jewison officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery with military honors provided by Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 3, 2007 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Saturday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Gerald Bernard Koenig was born on March 13, 1932 in Altura, MN to Leo M. and Gertrude A. (nee Rolfing) Koenig. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1950 he graduated from Lewiston High School. On January 9, 1954 he married Nancy DuBois in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Rochester. On October 15, 1954 he entered the U.S. Army, served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on October 12, 1956. He started working for Adair Electric in Rochester and worked there until starting Koenig Electric in Pine Island in 1963. Gerald and Nancy divorced in the 1970's and Gerald retired in the fall of 1999. On March 6, 1980 he married Carol Rennie and Carol died on September 30, 1999. Gerald was a member of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184, a twenty five year member of the Rochester Eagles and a retired member of the Pine Island Volunteer Fire Department. Gerald is survived by two sons, Dana Koenig and Mark (Jean) Koenig, both of Pine Island, two daughters, Cynthia (Wayne) DeWall of Grand Meadow and Ditto (Doug) Pietrzak of St. Cloud, step-son, Scott Rennie of Pine Island, four foster daughters, Carrie Patton, Jean Kramer, Pat Motes and Barb Sauter, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and three sisters, Isabel Williams of NY, NY., Ruth Belter of Rochester and Dorothy Schinagel of Chicago, IL. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert & Joe Koenig, three sisters, Florence Stoos, Alice Brennan and Irene Koshire, and foster son, Donald Parish.
