Gerald D. Fitzsimmons

Funeral services for Gerald D. Fitzsimmons will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home- Rochester Chapel with Father Lavern Trocinski officiating. Burial will be at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Assembly Area #4 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Eagles Cancer Telethon.
Gerald died on December 24, 2007 at his residence. He was born on December 31, 1933 in Detroit, MI to Patrick and Margaret (Fay) Fitzsimmons. He attended high school and college there until he enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1952. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he attended the University of Detroit and was married to Glenna Faye Tyler in November of 1958. They were later divorced.
Gerald joined the IBM Corporation in September of 1959. He held various technical and managerial positions at several locations until he transferred to Rochester in 1972. He held many managerial and staff positions here until he retired in 1988.
He was a life member and past president of the IBM Retirees Club, a past commander of American Legion Post 92 and a member of Voiture 327 of the 40 & 8, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member and past officer of the Elks Lodge 1091, and a social member of Eagles Aerie 2228. He resided at Realife of Rochester Cooperative where he was a former officer and board member.
Gerald is survived by two sons: Patrick and Stephen, of Rochester and a daughter, Debra, of Stillwater; four grandchildren: Daniel, Madeline, Hannah and Sam; one sister, Marie Kessler, of Warren, Michigan. A sister, Margaret, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
