Gerald "Jerry" Alvin Eisert, died peacefully on March 5th, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Red Wing. Jerry was born August 31st, 1930 in New Prague, MN to Herman and Elizabeth Eisert. After graduating from St. Paul Park High School he joined the Army and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood MO. where he served on the rifle team. After the Army he returned home. On June 28th, 1957 he married the love of his life, Alma Johnson. He enjoyed a 35 year career at Central Research Laboratories in Red Wing, MN. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the Minnesota Grape Growers Association. In its early years of the association, he & Alma worked with the University of Minnesota developing some of the popular winter hardy grape varieties grown today. He was an active member of the Red Wing YMCA, and for many years he served on the local board of directors, board of trustees, various building committees, and on the national YMCA board of directors.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, flying and gliding, and restoring his Model A pickup. As active as he was, he always put his family first and particularly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. He was also able to experience the first few months of his great-granddaughter's life.
Survivors include his son, Perry (Cheryl) Eisert of Hastings; two granddaughters, Megan (Michael) Williamson of Red Wing and Hannah Eisert of Hastings; one great granddaughter, Leah Williamson and one sister-in-law, Cathy Eisert. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard, and his wife.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Arte Sharot officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
