OBITUARY: Gerald "Gary" Durst

Funeral services for Gerald "Gary" Durst will be at 7:30PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Pine Island Assembly of God Church with Reverend Daniel Ashpole officiating. Casketbearers will be Robert Durst, Ronald Durst, Allen Durst, Kenneth Durst, Douglas Walker, Marvin Durst, Roger Durst, Ryan Foley, and Mark Kennedy. Burial will be in the Berne Cemetery, Milton Township, Dodge County, MN. Memorials may be given to the Pine Island Assembly of God Church or to the Berne Cemetery Association.

Gerald Nicholas Durst, age 89, of Pine Island, died on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Zumbrota Health Services. He was born on September 15, 1918 in Milton Township, Dodge County, Minnesota to Nicholas and Emma (Kuntz) Durst, youngest of thirteen children. He attended country school in Dodge County and, on June 14, 1938 married Stella Walker in Rochester. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Mantorville on the family farm until 1952 when they moved to the Isadore Moulton farm, west of Pine Island. They farmed here until April 2007 when they moved into Pine Island. They raised a son of their own and fostered six other children, including Stella's brothers and sisters and his niece and nephew. Stella died on December 20, 2007. Gary was a member of the Pine Island Assembly of God Church and was active in the NFO. He loved old time music, dancing, playing cards, and dominoes.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Milo Durst, and his significant other, Dirk van Sloten, of Mequon, Wisc.; foster children, Lorraine (Ruben) Bakken of Appleton, Minn., Wava (Delbert) Zeitlow of Boyd, Minn., Clyde (Carol) Oswald of Caldwell, Idaho, Clayton Oswald of Coco Beach, Fla., Larry Durst of Rochester, Minn., and Virginia "Ginny" Tripp of Saigon, Vietnam; one sister, Kate Trygstad, of Rochester, Minn.; and 27 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30PM at the church on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2008.
