George Matthew Taylor, Sr., Wicaśta Cańduhupa Tuwé Nazińˈkiću - Man pipe who stands with someone with the pipe, 71, of Red Wing, died Friday, July 19, 2019, at Essentia Health, St Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born on February 21, 1948, in Flandreau, South Dakota to Nathan Taylor, Sr. and Erna (Johnson) Taylor. He grew up in Flandreau and then moved to Prairie Island. On November 9, 1991, he married Sue Jacobson. He worked in maintenance at St. John's Hospital, the City of Red Wing, roads and parks at Prairie Island and security at Treasure Island Casino. He was also a sun dancer and pipe carrier. He had a dream to start Sundance to help the people.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, his children, Herbert Decoteau, Robert (Tonya) Feather, Joshua (Farah) Taylor, Sr., Cheryl Taylor, Janet Taylor, George (Angie) Taylor, Jr., Shawn (Tarah) Taylor, Sr., Laura (James) Taylor, Natasha (Dan) Taylor-Brock, Jon Wells and Sheila Wells; 40 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Carol Taylor and Maggie Taylor; adoptive children, Erna (Freddie) Taylor-Johnson, Terry Rowan, Katie Verdeja, and Jeremy (Jessica) Lafferty; adoptive brothers, Virgil (Deb) Foote and Floyd Hand. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert, Lawrence, Nathan and Pete Taylor, Earlen Spider, Beatrice Rose and Janet Taylor; daughter, Lisa Taylor; adoptive daughter, Suzin Mermonti; grandchildren, Taden Taylor, Nathan Mendez-Bolaina and Joseph Einberger and son-in-law, Nathan Jaenke.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the Prairie Island Community Center. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Community Center and continue until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Church of the Messiah Cemetery.
