George S. Kristo

George Stefen Kristo, 92, of Red Wing died Friday, July 8, 2016 at his home at Twin Rivers in Cannon Falls. He was born October 15, 1923 in Red Wing to Stefan and Marcia (Karagulau) Kristo. He grew up and attended school in Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing Central High School. After graduation, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Following his honorable discharge, George went on to work at the Red Wing Shoe Comp. In September of 1947, he married VirJean Cederberg at United Lutheran Church and the couple had two children. George retired from the Shoe in 1984. He was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion, Post 54 and United Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher and gardener. He loved to golf and in his younger years, played baseball with the Red Wing Aces.
George is survived by his two children, Jon (Lori) Kristo of Red Wing and Ellen (Rudy) Timm of Temecula, Calif.; nine grandchildren; Kimberly Kristo, Annette VanGuilder, Jennifer (Brad) Bremer, Diana Rice, David VanGuilder, Molly, Ethan, Beth and Cally Timm; and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009, VirJean; two siblings, Andrew Kristo and Marge Furbe and his parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Burial will follow at Tabor Lutheran Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
