George Gorman

George E. Gorman, age 90, of Goodhue, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at St. Brigid's Assisted Living in Red Wing Minnesota. George was born on March 4, 1921, in Belle Creek Township, the son of Ernest and Mary (McNamara) Gorman. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1939 and then served in the United States Army for three years during World War II, serving the Philippines. Upon his return from service, he married his high school classmate, Josephine Heaney, and they went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Dennis Heaney, to form Heaney & Gorman in Goodhue. They all worked together in the store and locker plant for almost 45 years where they raised their ten children. He was a lifelong member of the Goodhue Civic Club, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Goodhue County DFL Party where he served as County Chairman for over 25 years and was an advisor to many local and state politicians. His interests included old-time music, Goodhue High School sports and working in the family business.

He is survived by nine children; Helen (Tim) Webb of Rushford, Thomas (Joni) of Red Wing, Charles (Debb) of Pine Island, Michael of Red Wing, Mary (James) Reinhardt of Rushford, Ernie (Gayle) of Winona, Donna (Mike) Smith of Chanhassen, Denise Gorman of Eden Prairie and Richard of Red Wing; one brother, John Gorman of Red Wing; two sisters, Ceclia Becker of Boston, Massachusetts and Vivian Gorman of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and long time friend Gerald "Lefty" O'Reilly of Goodhue.

George was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Josephine Gorman; grandson, Brian Reinhardt; daughter, Patricia Gorman; and brother, Henry Gorman.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Columbkill's Cemetery Belle Creek, Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the church and for one hour prior to the service.
