Gene Kent Stensrud, age 55, of Hager City, died Monday, February 25, 2008. He was born on September 28, 1952, in Rochester, to Palmer and Wanda (Baugh) Stensrud. He attended School in Pine Island, and then entered the U.S. Army. He served one year in Germany and then in Vietnam being honorably discharged on December 17, 1971. He worked for Durkee Atwood, Conwed and Holst Construction. He was currently working for Aggregate Industries. He was a member of Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54 and enjoyed working on old cars, camping and listening to tunes.
Survivors include his children, Inga Stensrud-Sparr of Hastings, Jessica Stensrud of Ellsworth, Nicholas Stensrud of Red Wing, Andrew Stensrud of Red Wing and Kirsten Stensrud of Hastings; siblings, Julie (Jochen) Schneider of Red Wing, Garwin (Sue) Stensrud of Frontenac, Doreen Vranish of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Christine (Rolland) Pomeroy of Frontenac, Taffy (Rick) Conrad of Goodhue, Bill (Christine) Hurlbut of Cottage Grove, Jody (Becky) Hurlbut of St. Paul, and Kelly (Michelle) Hurlbut of Red Wing; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dona Olufson of Hager City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Radcliff.
Funeral will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be Wednesday March 5 at 10:15 a.m. in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery assembly lane #4. Pallbearers will be George Mead, Mike Nelson, Ray Schafer, Chris and Jamie Stensrud, Jon Olufson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
