Gene Deden, Sr.

June 24, 1940 — November 30, 2008

Gene Victor Deden, Sr. 68, of Red Wing, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1940, in Hay Creek Township, Goodhue County to Victor and Ethel (Thuman) Deden. He attended Red Wing Schools and also farmed with his dad on the family farm. For a few years he worked for the Red Wing Shoe Company and for 33 years for the Ironworkers Local 512 retiring in 1997. On February 14, 1960, he married Karen Fasbender and they later divorced. On October 18, 2002, he married to Mary Jo Linder. He was a member of the Redman Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, coon hunting with his dad and farming.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; one daughter, Tammy Anderson of Red Wing; two sons Gene Deden Jr. of Red Wing and Tim (Gwen Brenner) Deden of Hager City; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Beryl (Donald) Anderson of Stockholm, Wis.; three brothers, Donald Deden of Frontenac, Victor Deden of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Jeffrey Deden of St. Paul; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Linder of Red Wing; one sister in-law, Bettie Deden of Comstock, Wis. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Gerald and his son-in-law, John Anderson.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacia Anderson, Joshua, Jonathan, Sami and Gabrielle Deden.
